Sha Po Lang
Nov. 26th, 2008 09:46 am杀破狼 (Sha Po Lang) the opening song for Chinese Paladin (Xianjian Qixia Zhuan), has baffled numberless listeners, Chinese and non-Chinese alike. Unsurprisingly, no one on DramaWiki (the wikia on Asian Dramas) was able to provide a suitable translation. Therefore, I took it upon myself to do so.
(Which ticks me off to no end, because I KNOW there are plenty of translators on the net who kick my sorry butt…)
The title itself is a puzzle, as the three unrelated characters literally translate to "kill", "break", and "wolf". It is actually an acronym that has to do with the symbolism behind constellations in Chinese astrology. But to make this short and sweet, the acronym stands for "courage", "fate", and "desire" and means—more or less—the warrior’s fate.
Please feel free to make use of this translation, as I’m pretty sure it’s the only English one out there at this point in time…

In pursuit of the sound of the bamboo flute and the hoofbeats Seeking you The most glorious self-sacrifice is a hero’s fate In the moment of wielding the blade, the heart is weeping *To live is to prove that traces of love exist Fire, after it has burned, a greater life To kill is to praise in song the majesty of the moment before destruction Night is the wolf’s profound gaze, waiting alone for dawn* Unable to see the future or the past, unable to find the difference between life and death Taking neither joy nor regret, leaving this place Dawn and crescent moon alternate, I pass through centuries Just for you Cherry petals adrift, this sorrowful scene These long sleeves cannot dispel a lifetime of the light of blades and the shadow of swords Have I already been doomed with This displacement of fate My broken wings Until you It was you who let me find myself *repeat chorus* |
